  • The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was formed on April 1, 1995 by merging the International Airports Authority of India and the National Airports Authority with a view to accelerate the integrated development, expansion, and modernization of the operational, terminal, and cargo facilities at the airports in the country conforming to international standards.

    Need for a Solution:

AAI required a solution to help in the transformation of passenger facilitation at 13 major Indian Airports located in Ahmedabad, Goa, Trichi, Calicut, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore, Amritsar, Varanasi, Srinagar, Guwahati, Jaipur, Udaipur, and Lucknow.

    Solution:

To overcome the challenges faced by them, AAI opted for SITA's AirportConnect Open technology. K. Ramalingam, chairman of AAI said, "The solution will further help AAI to create best-in-class passenger-friendly airports through automation of the check-in and boarding process which includes provision of bar-coded boarding passes in compliance with industry standards."

    Benefits:

The airlines will be able to operate in a secure and robust IT environment. The major feature of AirportConnect Open is that it allows airlines to run their own proprietary applications on common-use workstations. The deployment of AirportConnect Open in these 13 airports will make them more attractive to airlines as it will streamline the process of passenger management as the market grows.

Maneesh Jaikrishna, SITA Senior Director for India, said: "The installation of AirportConnect Open will improve the passenger journey for all airlines using these airports and facilitate the arrival of new airlines wishing to use them. Passengers will benefit from reduced check-in times."
