Lilliput Manages its Operations with LS Retail
By Priyanka Akhouri
Mumbai, Apr 18, 2008 1858 hrs IST

Lilliput entered the domestic retail market with the launch of its first store in Delhi in August 2002. Today it has a strong presence in the kids wear section, in both Indian and international markets. It has more than 140 brand outlets, and over 150 large multi brand outlets like Shopper's Stop, Lifestyle, Pantaloon, etc. The company has its presence in Bahrain and China. It's also planning to open 50 stores in the Middle East, and 100 other new stores in China. Need for a Solution: Kamal Gupta, vice president of Lilliput said, "During expansion, the biggest challenge we were facing was that, there was identifiable dissimilarity within the operational system." Lilliput was using Polaris Retail Excel solution for managing sales in stores, and Tally to manage company finance/accounting part. With growing number of stores and multiple transactions at the company, there was a need to record various business processes in a single database. Thus, Lilliput was in search of a solution to support the growth of its stores. The company needed a solution, which would enable the employees to track individual orders, map inventory processes, and handle store operations more effectively. Solution: As the company was very aggressive with its expansion plans, a complete integrated solution was very much required to record data from various business areas in a single database. As per the requirements of the company, Lilliput zeroed in on LS Retail solution by Dynamic Vertical Solutions (DVS). "Unlike the other solutions, LS Retail is localized by DVS as per our requirements in India. This customization makes it user-friendly, and can be implemented faster as an application," opined Gupta. Benefits: LS Retail is a scalable, flexible, and reliable solution, and at the same time it is easy to maintain. "The Point of Sale (POS) features of LS Retail were a straight fit for us. LS Retail provided a setup that ranged from a single store with one POS to a complex, multi-store environment. This integrated well with our overall business operation," added Gupta. The solution enables the management to track individual transactions from the POS to the general ledger, hence maximizing its business value and efficiency. "LS Retail enables us to easily understand our operations, and manage those in a better way at every level, whether it's the inventory or the store level. The solution has helped us in integrating the overall business operations, which has increased our productivity," stated Gupta. LS Retail allows efficient data synchronization, which reduces the latency factor up to 50%. This updates and stores data in centralized database. It also increases the efficiency of warehouse users to 60%, in terms of time consumed in managing warehouse processes. With LS Retail, most tasks can be handled online from the head office, which reduces system maintenance effort at stores up to 40%. About the Deal: Lilliput deployed the LS Retail solution in August 2007. It took 1 month for successful implementation of the solution and for the stores to go live. Tectura was the implementation partner involved with DVS in the project. SNAPSHOT Lilliput entered domestic retail with the launch of its first store in Delhi in August 2002.
