Nasscom Survey Paints Rosy Picture of Indian BPOs

NASSCOM, the premier trade body has released its annual survey for 2007-08. The survey takes a look at the performance of the Indian software and services sector (excluding hardware) for 2007-08, while providing an outlook for 2008-09.
According to the survey, the Indian IT-BPO industry (including domestic market) recorded an overall growth of 28 %, and experienced an increase in the revenue from $39.6 billion in 2006-07 to $52 billion in 2007-08. The software and services export segment grew by 29 % to register revenues of $40.4 billion in 2007-08, up from $31.4 billion in 2006-07. The domestic segment also experienced growth by 26 % to register revenues of $11.6 billion in 2007-08.
Within the export segment, IT services exports grew by 28 % to clock revenues of $23.1 billion, while BPO exports increased by 30 % with revenues of $10.9 billion. However, engineering services and product exports clocked revenues up to $6.4 billion, growing at 29 % in 2007 -08.
The survey also showed that the overall software and services revenue is estimated to increase by 21 %-24 % to touch the $50 billion in 2008-09.
