  • The Government of India has launched a multi-lingual portal to provide information on agriculture, rural energy, education, health and e-governance to the rural communities in the country.

The portal, named India Development Gateway (InDG) will link panchayats across the country, open a window for development, and also empower villagers.

Launching the portal today, Pratibha Patil Indian President said that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) must revolutionise agriculture, and its benefits must reach remote and far-flung areas of the country. It must univeralise primary education, energy conservation and efficiency, and health objectives.

Currently, the service is available in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and English.

The portal is executed by the Hyderabad based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) with support from the e-governance division of ICT.
