Access Mails On Mobile Without GPRS
By Anuradha Ramamirtham
Mumbai, Dec 27, 2006
Internet service providers will provide tough competition to telecom companies in real time communication space.
Breaking the monopoly of telecom providers in e-mail messaging space, Rediff India has pioneered its short messaging service number to send and receive emails over mobile telephones.
Users will be able to send and receive emails over the mobile phones by messaging to 7333. All telecom service providers have agreed to help Rediff in its endeavour.
The initiative will benefit small and medium enterprises. It will enable real time feed back and decision making.
However, there is a set back. A user would not be able to view attachments.
Manish Agarwal, VP- marketing, Rediff India, says, "Users do not require a GPRS connection to avail the service."
He explains, "The user will get a brief of the subject in the mail alert column. A person has to sms mail' to 7333 and register his rediffmail e-mail id. Each time he receives an alert, the telecom service provider sends an sms with the subject profile. The user returns the sms only if he wants to access the file. Even the replies are routed through the telecom provider."
