Alkraft Thermotechnologies Moves to SAP
By Anuradha Ramamirtham
Mumbai, Sep 4, 2007

Alkraft Thermotechnologies is an auto component manufacturing company in Chennai. In order to meet demands of the competition in the market, the company needed an IT solution, which will streamline its entire IT business with a single product and will enable it to manage rapid growth more efficiently.

The company was looking for a change, because it wanted an integrated information system, approval-based process, status tracking, and inventory control system.

"To address our IT needs, we were looking for an affordable, easy-to-use software application, which would be easy to install and help us use IT as a strategic platform to manage our growth and expansion," said A.Manivannan, general manager (Manufacturing) of Alkraft Thermotechnologies.

Some of the key challenges faced by Alkraft Thermotechnologies were in areas of material planning and accountability, costing and designing, tracking of quality assurance, and high levels of Management Information Systems (MIS).

To overcome these challenges, the company chose SAP BI business solution. FAST is the implementation partner. It's in the process of deployment and will be live by November 2007. Prior to this, Excel and Tally were used for all its operation.

The company will leverage the integration capabilities of SAP B1 solution to link its various key business functions like - inventory control, production, purchasing, design, sales opportunities, sub-contracting, and quality management.

Since the information from ERP will be integarted and online, it'll provide effective information for overall control of the business. Challenges can be tackled with structured, current information-based decisions.

With SAP, the company plans to achieve complete accountability of materials within and at sub-contractor locations, increase value addition by effectively using costing module, and increase productivity levels within the organization.

According to Manivannan, the automation of key business functions at Alkraft Thermotechnologies is expected to help the company to fulfill its IT-related business objectives and also generate Return on Investment (ROI).

Furthermore, Manivannan said that the main focus of their present implementation of SAP B1 is to improve the customer-vendor relationship online with the business information. They're confident that the company will be benefited with SAP B1 application.

By spending approximately 1% of its revenues on IT, one of the visions of Alkraft Thermotechnologies is IT enabled operation; and the organization will always look for application and technology to achieve the same.
