A long timer at Veritas Software, Basant Rajan, has been handed over the baton to speed up the process of innovation at security major Symantec's Center of Innovation in India.
Rajan's role will be to advance Symantec's partnerships with the technical community in India, and also to interact actively with the customers, academia, government, research, and technology organizations.
Rajan has been appointed as the CTO for Symantec's Center of Innovation based in Pune, India, and his mandate is to steer the Symantec Research Labs (SRL) and Advanced Concept Group (ACG) projects in India. He will also work closely with government agencies in the security and compliance domains, and interact frequently with customers on technology strategy.
Mark Bregman, executive vice president and chief technology officer of Symantec said, "Symantec recognizes the technology talent in India, and has appointed a CTO to cultivate and harness this potential."
Rajan, a doctorate in computer science from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, has had a long stint at
Symantec, since 1997. He has also been a visiting member at the School of Technology and Computer Science, TIFR, from 1998 to 2006.
Rajan said, "The new role gives me an exciting opportunity to foster knowledge sharing within this talent base, and be an "activator" of technology for Symantec, thereby reaching out to the technical community in India."
