Big Blue's Green 2.0 Project in India
By CXOtoday Staff
Mumbai, Jul 18, 2008
IBM has announced the launch of second phase of Project Big Green (PBG 2.0) in India. As part of PBG 2.0, the company is introducing new products and services to help enterprises develop green technology infrastructure.
IBM had launched Project Big Green and committed $1 billion globally to deliver technologies last year. With PBG 2.0, it will build up on the success that it had created with first phase.
Steve Sams, vice-president (global site & facilities services) of IBM Corporation said, "As Indian organizations eye high growth in their business, they want to be more conscious and efficient in the manner they consume and pay for energy."
The modular range of data centers includes Portable Modular Data Center Data Center (PMDC), Enterprise Modular Data Center (EMDC), High Density Zone (HDZ). The PMDC provides a fully functional data center in a pod-like form with a complete physical infrastructure including power and cooling systems and remote monitoring while the EMDC is an enterprise class data center "shrink-wrapped" and standardized from 5,000 square feet up to 20,000 square feet. Lastly, the HDZ is a modular system that provides incremental cooling and power capability in existing data centers that are tapped out of capacity.
Besides this, the new products and services to make their data centers green include energy efficient services and software. This will help customers with storage and virtualization needs as well as monitoring and managing of energy consumption for the data center.
