Blue Coat Eyes No 1 slot in WAN Market
By Sharmee Roy
Mumbai, Jun 30, 2008

With the acquisition of Packeteer, Blue Coat Systems is looking to ramp up its presence in India. Currently on a 23 city roadshow across Asia Pacific, Blue Coat is now looking to be the leader in the WAN application market.

Prior to the acquisition both the companies individually had a market share of about 29 % each in India and now, they have a market share of about 60 percent.

F. Matthew Young III, VP (Asia Pacific) of Blue Coat Systems said, "Our nearest competitors have a market a share of 15 %. And now we are number one in WAN optimization and secure gateway market. We have a 3 year lead over our competition. "

Blue Coat will target the application delivery market with 3 layers -- namely application performance monitoring, WAN optimization and secure web gateway. The company claims that these 3 layers combined together will give end to end application delivery network.

Commenting on the drivers, Young said, "Some of the key drivers for application market are increasing centeralization, mobilization and globalization."

The company's focus would on 5 to 6 key segments, which includes IT/ITES, BFSI, government, manufacturing and service providers. Both companies together will now have an access to 7000 customers across verticals.
