C-DAC Launches PKI Awareness Campaign
By CXOtoday Staff
Mumbai, Sep 01, 2008 1416 hrs IST

C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), an R&D institution involved in design, development, and deployment of advanced IT-based solutions under the Ministry of Communications and IT, organized its first symposium on Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) in Bangalore.

The symposium is the first in a series of seminars to be held at six cities (New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram) in the next six months under the banner 'PKI Outreach Programme (POP)' to create awareness on the topic of PKI.

PKI is central to e-commerce, e-governance, and other activities related to the Internet.

As part of the campaign, C-DAC will hold one day symposia, two day workshops, and three day training programs across the country during the next two years. These programs are targeted to provide insight into the PKI for adapting secure communications over the cyberspace on applications on e-governance, online transactions, e-commerce, etc.

S. Ramakrishnan, director general of C-DAC said, "Given the rapid spread of Internet in the country and the vulnerabilities of the users, it is important for India to develop the eco-system for building secure e-commerce. The broad-band revolution and next generation mobile revolution driven by 3G will fuel growth in this segment and putting together PKI has to go hand-in-hand with broad-based participation and awareness to ensure safe and exponential growth. By conducting this pioneering series, C-DAC has been given an important technology as well as promotional role."
