Check Point Software Technologies will add security controls for over 50,000 Web 2.0 widgets and more than 4,500 Internet applications. The company has completed the acquisition of an application classification and signature database from FaceTime Communications, which is considered to be quite a comprehensive one in the industry.
New developments from Check Point will be combined with the acquired technologies to provide granular control over application usage. Security administrators will be able to prevent threats associated with the use of certain Internet applications. The security controls will be offered as a 'Software Blade' that will be available for all gateways.
With FaceTime's application database, Check Point has been able to create a solution, which enables enterprises to monitor, control and diffuse network traffic -- including from Web 2.0 applications.
According to Gil Shwed, chairman and CEO, Check Point, "We are continuing to re-invent the Internet firewall. Adding the world's largest application classification database is a natural extension of our Software Blade architecture, demonstrating the power of our architecture and solution."
Check Point disclosed that this new software blade will only be announced some time in 2010.
