Cisco Enhances ISR, Video Surveillance Product
By CXOtoday Staff
Mumbai, Mar 28, 2007
Cisco has announced wireless enhancements to its integrated services
routers(ISRs), and also announced additions to its IP-based video
surveillance product portfolio.
The company has added an integrated third-generation (3G) wireless
connectivity option to its ISRs and doubled the scalability of its
integrated wireless local-area network (LAN) support.
This solution is part of the Cisco Internet Protocol Next-Generation
Network (IP NGN) architecture and is enabling service providers to offer 3G wireless connectivity to enterprise branch office customers. This offers the highest-availability access to business-critical applications across the wide-area network (WAN).
Four mobile network operators - AT&T, Sprint, Telef nica M viles Espa a and Verizon Wireless - have trialed Cisco's new 3G Wireless WAN High-Speed Interface Card (HWIC) solution for their enterprise customers. Separate cards support Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks.
The integrated solution enables service providers to increase the adoption of revenue-generating 3G services. A variety of services can be possible by the combination of the 3G Wireless WAN HWIC solution and the Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISRs).The new offerings include: Automatic WAN failover service for business continuity; Supplemental bandwidth access when the primary WAN link is over utilized; Rapidly deployable primary WAN connectivity for temporary sites and businesses requiring portability; and Rapidly deployable primary WAN connectivity for remote locations lacking wireline infrastructure.
Jeff Bradley, vice president of wireless business data services, AT&T, said, "The Cisco 3G Wireless WAN HWIC solution will work in conjunction with AT&T's Wireless WAN Connectivity service to provide our customers with a diverse and secure wireless broadband backup that is built into their Cisco ISR. This type of self-contained solution brings together wireline and wireless. Our joint AT&T and Cisco offering will resonate very well with customers who need to work to ensure that the flow of critical information is continuous, regardless of the situation."
Additions to Cisco's IP-based video surveillance product portfolio include Cisco's new IP surveillance camera, a scalable video recording and storage platform, and new video surveillance software. These offer greater security scalability, and are easily integrated with other security and business systems to enhance the value of video.
The new offerings use the IP network as a platform for accessing video, and transforming disparate legacy security systems to be more collaborative and responsive while preserving customers' existing investments.
The surveillance solution also provides customers with numerous benefits. Live or recorded video can be accessed by authorized users from virtually anywhere at any time through the IP network.
