Cisco To Acquire SpansLogic

Cisco Systems, Inc., will acquire privately-held SpansLogic Inc., of Mountain View, Calif. SpansLogic is a leading provider of processors to improve processing speeds across the network.
Each generation of Ethernet will offer a 10x increase in speed, to embed SpansLogic performance into Cisco's switch platforms that claims to achieve new levels of feature efficiency.
"It is imperative that the network be tightly integrated with very high speed processing capabilities eliminating bottlenecks," says Tom Edsall, Senior Vice President, Datacenter Business Unit (DCBU).
"With SpansLogic, Cisco will be able to improve overall traffic efficiency and throughput across the network", adds Edsall.
SpansLogic was founded in 2004 and has 14 employees in Mountain View, Calif.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is subject to various standard closing conditions and is expected to close in the third quarter of Cisco's fiscal year 2007, ending April 28, 2007.
