Giving New Angle to CIO's Portfolio
By CXOtoday Staff
Mumbai, Dec 13, 2006

IBM India has come up with the results of 'India's CIO Study', part of the Global CEO study that the company announced in September 2006. According to the findings, nearly 86% CIOs gave importance to 'business and technology integration' and 52% expressed that their organizations need to be integrated.

The study highlighted three main points. First, the deep business model innovation is important for creating new and differing value for an organization, secondly they were of the opinion that it must be linked to business and marketing insights to effectively enable and drive innovation. Lastly, external collaboration was given importance as it helps in partnering with the other organizations resulting in higher revenue growth and innovation solutions for the organization.

It was also found that there is a need for CIOs to become customer-centric and a credible business partner for CEOs by creating a flexible, responsive infrastructure that is better equipped to answer the needs of an innovative organization.

It also stressed on the fact that CIOs need to be proactive in creating deep partnerships and forming alliances that extend beyond traditional boundaries. They need to help create a culture that encourages innovation, rewards innovative thinking and the results achieved.

The study revealed that CIOs in India need to be a business executive first and later a technologist. It is necessary for them to promote and become part of a new governance model, where responsibility for business and IT is shared by experts in the field.

Looks great, seems CIOs are after in step witt the times. Having a sense of direction is one thing, which looks right as per this study ; the second thing being delivery - it is important to bring about that change in the organization. Perform, that is.
