HCL Infosystems said it has won an order worth Rs 110 crore from the Government of Gujarat to supply personal computers (PCs) with biometric fingerprint scanner and UPS to over 7,000 schools across the state.
Under the contract, HCL will implement a biometric-based attendance system, offer facility management and run teacher training programmes to supply and implement education software effectively at schools.
A part of the public-private partnership initiative, the contract is aimed at speeding development in the tribal districts of Gujarat. Initially, the project will be implemented in two districts out of eight notified tribal districts, comprising 150 schools each. It will then be extended to all the remaining schools.
The project plans to cover over 7,000 schools in the state with more than 1,000 schools under tribal department and over 6,000 schools under education department.
Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and chief executive officer of HCL Infosystems, said HCL has the experience and in-depth understanding of the Indian needs to deliver in such a complex project that involves reaching out to the remotest part of the state.
HCL would be deploying its workforce of engineers in each school, responsible for periodical visits for on-ground system support.
