  • HCL Technologies and Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) India, have partnered to enhance the knowledge and capabilities of CIO's, end- users, and professionals on storage networking technologies.

Speaking to CXOtoday.com, Sharad Srivastav, chairman of SNIA India said, "Data requirements in India are increasing with new breeds of applications. Therefore, India needs a very large number of storage networking professionals. According to the IDC Asia-Pacific estimates, in India the disk storage systems are growing at 67.5% CAGR, from 4 petabytes in 2003 to 52.7 petabytes in 2008. The overall storage market is growing over 17% a year, and the storage software market has registered a 33% growth per year."

This training program aims at enabling Indian enterprises to protect the cost of business-critical data. Since storage network technology also makes data available as and when required, the tutorial program will expose the Indian enterprises and customers to these benefits.

When asked why HCL chose SNIA, a senior official of HCL Technologies (storage practice) said, "SNIA has been working towards advancing the adoption of storage networks as complete and trusted solutions. It has been developing and deploying many educational programs for the benefit of end users and storage professionals. Therefore SNIA is a natural choice for HCL."

The end-users and professionals will be exposed to storage technologies such as storage virtualization I & II, effective use of virtualization, the current and future fiber channel technologies, iSCSI, NAS, SAN, and disk based data restoration. They would also be able to understand the utility of these concepts.

Commenting on the current condition of storage network technology in India, HCL's senior official said, "The usage of networked storage technology is growing faster in India than the rest of the world. However the deployment, at this time, is limited."

This joint series of tutorials held by the companies starts from May 19th 2007 in Chennai, and aims at building trained technology professionals in India.
