  • A submarine cable that was damaged on Friday, disrupted service in parts of South-Asia, the middle-east, and Europe. The FLAG Europe Asia (FEA) cable cut has been reported in the Mediterranean region between Alexandria (Egypt) and Palermo (Italy), said Reliance Globalcom, a unit of Reliance Communications that maintains the FLAG network. Cable cuts have also been reported on multiple submarine cables, including the Sea Me We 4, Sea Me We 3, and GO cables, passing through the region.

Reliance Globalcom said yesterday that a cable ship- the Teliri, has been assigned for the repair work and is on its way to commence repairs. The cable ship will survey the cable and track the cable path, checking for cuts using a ROV (Remotely Operated Submarine Vehicle). The cable repair is expected to be completed during this week, subject to weather and cable/seabed conditions.

IP traffic has been automatically diverted via the Pacific region. However, the company warned that European sites could face congestion and increased latency.
