Intel and HP Announce Quad-Core Offerings
By CXOtoday Staff
Mumbai, Nov 15, 2006
Intel and HP have announced a global launch of multi-core workstations based on Quad-Core processors from Intel Corporation.
The HP workstations are designed to help professionals like digital content creators, oil and gas engineers, and computer-aided manufacturing engineers to achieve shorter project cycle times and greater parallelism in workflow for a stable, multi-threaded, and multi-tasking environment.
While Quad Core Intel Xeon 5300 addresses server platforms, Intel Core-2 Extreme processors are targeted at desktops. Both the versions have been built with four computing 'brains' inside a single microprocessor.
Ramamurthy Sivakumar, country manager, Intel Technology, India, says that the launch of Quad Core microprocessors will explore possibilities for science, entertainment and business segments.
"The new processors have been built-to-suit existing industry standards of computer infrastructure and does not require any further enhancement as far as the hardware goes," adds Sivakumar.
Part of the work involved in getting the chips ready for the global market would be undertaken by the Digital Enterprise Group (DEG) at Intel India Development Centre (IIDC) in Bangalore.
The DEG undertakes significant work related to post-silicon functional validation that involves the decision of whether a product is ready to launch in market or not.
Quad Core processors have been recently launched in India.
