Intel in JV Talks with ITI for WiMax Bid|

Chipmaker giant Intel Corp is reportedly in joint venture talks with ailing state-run telecom equipment manufacturer Indian Telecom Industries (ITI) in order to bid for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMax) spectrum at the auction to be held in January 2010.
In accordance with the bid proposals, ITI intends to be a minority partner in the proposed JV with a 26 percent stake. The JV partner should be able to invest at least Rs 60 crore to be able to qualify.
According to sources, Intel will provide the hardware and consumer premise equipment around WiMax for wireless transmission of data and up to 75 Mb/second.
Apart from Intel, global players such as Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent, Samsung and Hitachi have also shown interest in participating in the JV it is understood.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) iwill be holding a pre-bid conference in Delhi before selecting the participants.
