Currently in public beta, Microsoft's Forefront, codenamed "Stirling", integrated security suite will use Kaspersky Lab's antivirus solutions in its server components to provide protection for corporate email and web traffic.
Microsoft Forefront is designed to deliver comprehensive protection across endpoint, application servers and edge solutions with a central management console for easy administration and enterprise-wide multi product visibility.
Forefront "Stirling" enables software, hardware, and services vendors to share and use security event information across the "Stirling" environment and the broader partner ecosystem, thus enabling partners to enhance the effectiveness of their security technologies and better protect customer IT environments.
Kaspersky Lab announced that future versions of Kaspersky Antivirus for Lotus Domino will detect anomalous behavior and provide security assessments based on settings established by a system administrator in Microsoft Forefront codename "Stirling" Beta 2. This usage scenario will enable the administrator to be proactively notified of potentially dangerous threats, and flag corrective actions that should be taken to eliminate the spread of potentially malicious code.
According to Petr Merkulov, vice president, ISV & IHV Alliances, Kaspersky Lab, the company's technologies are currently used by over 80 IT vendors worldwide. The latest Kaspersky Lab technology, in particular, the new antivirus engine that was first introduced in Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009, is used in the server components of Microsoft Forefront products.
"Microsoft is pleased to work with Kaspersky to develop interoperability between Forefront 'Stirling' and their solutions, in order to give our customers more comprehensive and responsive security across the enterprise," said John Chirapurath, director in the identity and security business group at Microsoft Corp.
Meanwhile, Microsoft also announced a new set of technologies - code-named Geneva - that will make it easier for customers to build security-enhanced access into software and hosted services.
