  • MacBook Air, the world's slimmest notebook -- 0.16 inch at its thinnest point and 0.76 inch maximum thickness weighing about 1.36 kg was unveiled at Mumbai on Tuesday. Apple already announced about its latest product in US two weeks back.

The notebook has 13.3 inch LED backlit widescreen display, a full size backlit keyboard, built in iSight camera and a trackpad with multi-touch gestures support with features -- pinch, rotate and swipe. It works on 1.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with standard 2 GB memory, 80 GB - 1.8 inch hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi technology and Bluetooth 2.1. Leopard, a latest operating system is available with this notebook.

"We've built the world's thinnest notebook-- without sacrificing a full-size keyboard or a full-size 13-inch display. When you first see MacBook Air, it's hard to believe it's a high-performance notebook with a full-size keyboards and display. But it is," said Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple.

The 13.3 inch LED backlit widescreen is an energy saver and with the multi-touch gestures features -- pinch, rotate and swipe -- the user can actually zoom in/out, rotate and swipe photos and surf web pages. In dim lit areas like airplanes, studios or conference halls, the keyboard gets illuminated with built-in ambient light sensor that itself mend the light of keys and screen for best viewing.

Interestingly, the LED is free of mercury and arsenic, while the body is made-up of standard aluminum. The circuit boards are prepared from brominated flame retardant free material and non-PVC internal cables.

Along with such features, the notebook has up to 5 hours battery life for wireless functionality -- AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi networking that offers up to 5 times the performance and double the range of 802.11g. The wireless ability is supported by Migration Assistant software that transfers files and applications.

CD-ROM can be accessed by MacBook Air SuperDrive -- a compact external drive for MacBook Air that comes with USB port. The USB port works without a separate power adapter. Also, it has a micro DVI port to connect to other Apple products, desktops and projectors.

MacBook Air notebook is bundled with iLife 08 -- digital application suite including iPhoto and iMovie in new versions, integrated with Mac Web Gallery for online photo and video sharing.

This slim notebook is priced at Rs 96,100 and includes accessories MacBook Air SuperDrive, Apple USB Ethernet Adapter, Apple USB Modem, Apple MagSafe Airline Adapter, Apple Remote and the AppleCare Protection Plan, iWork '08, Logic Express 8, Final Cut Express 4, and Aperture 1.5.
