Mangeshkar Hospital Goes EDMS Live
By Priyanka Akhouri
Mumbai, Aug 17, 2007
Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune - established by the Mangeshkar family in October 1989 - has deployed an Enterprise Document Management Suite (EDMS) provided by E-Bizindia. This strategy helps the hospital to streamline the flow of the patient's records.
Maintenance and preservation of a patient's document for a longer period of time in a hospital become a crucial aspect in the day-to-day business operation. According to Tushar Kanade, IT manager of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, they were in need of a solution that would enable them to avoid the fragmentation of medical reports, reduce the number of misplaced documents, and eliminate the cost of storage space. Besides, retrieving and locating various medical reports was a tedious task for the hospital medical staff.
The hospital had short listed 3 EDMS vendors and decided to zero in on E-Bizindia, as the solution provides scalability, scope of customization, integration with their current hospital information system, and is cost effective. Apart from the Hospital Management Suite "CareWorks" they weren't using any other document management software.
The deployment proved quite beneficial to the hospital. It's design, deployment, ease of usage, and integration with the line of business application and training have been incredible and satisfactory", added Kanade. EDMS helps the hospital to retrieve secured medical reports quickly either by the medical or the non-medical staff. Moreover, the hospital has been able to review and collaborate the entire spectrum of medical information instantly, thereby helping them to take quick decision on various medical cases. It has enabled them to hold over 10, 00,000 medical repots of various patients.
After the implementation of EDMS, the flow of medical reports has become streamlined and systematic. User training was one of the major challenge, which was successfully imparted by E-Bizindia's technical team that provided training programs to the hospital's entire medical and non-medical team.
With EDMS, doctors can view a particular medical document, helping them to take consultative and collective decision in any crucial situation. It's user and operator friendly for the entire staff and saves time for the medical and non-medical staff to search and locate all medical reports. The main features of this solution include powerful document scanning, auto and manual indexing, exhaustive search of documents, detailed management of user permissions or restrictions to maintain controlled access to documents, powerful image editing, reduction, annotation support, book mark, and out bond as well as in-bound e-mail facility.
Furthermore, with user training manuals, multimedia presentations, and clips and navigation tools, it was possible to make the end user familiar with software. The hospital is now in a position to have easier and faster collaboration of information to make quick corporate decision and prompt customer service.
The hospital took 1 month to deploy the solution and successfully deployed it by mid-May 2007. It has allocated an IT enhancement budget of about half a crore rupees for the year 2007 for both hardware and software, and spends 5-10% of its revenue on IT. It maintains customer relationship through - online payment, availability of doctors, various package details, etc. It has also deployed hardware servers and Storage Area Network (SAN) at its data center.
