  • Microsoft will soon compete with Symantec and McAfee, with plans to
release a free anti-virus service for personal computers.

The free service, code-named Morro will offer basic features for fighting
    a wide range of viruses.

Three years ago, Microsoft entered that security market with Live OneCare,
which turned out to be a flop. A launch date for their new security
product has not been announced, though the company said it would happen
    soon.

Currently, the company is working on releasing a beta version for testing
and feedbacks. It is being rumored that a beta version has already been
issued internally by Microsoft for its employees.

Offering a free antivirus may not serve the purpose. As in today scenario not only selling is important but essense is best of support & post sales service. Also major question is do you really see value in one which is available free ??
