Motorola, Wipro Float WMNetServ
By CXOtoday Staff
Mumbai, Aug 2, 2006
Wipro has allied with Motorola to form WMNetServ, a company that will address the telecom network services market - allowing network service providers to outsource their various network operation needs.
Wipro will be a majority stakeholder in this joint venture, which will globally (North America, EMEA, LAC and APAC) target clients including telecom service providers as well as mission critical government and enterprise networks. Jayanta Dey from Wipro Technologies will head WMNetServ. It will initially involve an investment of $20 million, spread over 3 years that will go towards tools and technologies, besides NOC centers.
Customers can use WMNetServ's services to build-operate-transfer, or outsource and out-task services like planning, deployment and operation, besides optimization and support. Complete outsourcing and B-O-T are seen as major opportunities, with new players in emerging countries preferring to opt for them, informed Dey. A L. Rao, COO, Wipro Ltd opined that out-tasking would be more in-demand in India.
"Wipro has a proven track record in delivering managed services and complements Motorola's expertise in mobility. The combined strength of Wipro and Motorola gives WMNetServ a significant competitive advantage in managed services," said Srikanth Kannankote, Corporate VP, Motorola.
The company's infrastructure will consist of a Global Network Operation Center (GNOC) that will be located in New Delhi, besides two delivery centers to be set up in New Delhi and Bangalore, which will hire 50 engineers initially. It will be headquartered in Europe, with a subsidiary office in London.
Corporate strategy firm Mercer Management Consulting estimates the global managed & advisory services market to double in the next four years, going from $26 billion in 2005 to $48 billion by 2010.
