In a novel, but hardly unexpected, use of Web 2.0, SAP has collaborated with business networking site - LinkedIn, in a marketing agreement that aims at creating easy access to SAP consultants.
SAP partners can now use a product called LinkedIn Recruiter Basic Starter package, which includes LinkedIn Recruiter - the business networking site's online recruiting solution that searches the network for the best candidates based on individually definable criteria. According to the company, the product has been specifically designed for small and mid-sized partners (with up to 1000 employees).
What it will basically do is allow organizations to gain easy access to the more than 140,000 SAP consultants globally who use LinkedIn, thus easing the recruitment procedure. The package also includes LinkedIn Jobs Network, an online job posting service, which partners can leverage to promote job openings to the LinkedIn community.
According to estimates, SAP faces a paucity of around 40,000 professional consultants globally. The total number of SAP consultants in India at present is not known nor the number active on LinkedIn. However, when contacted, a SAP spokesperson said the offer is available for Indian partners too. Replying to our mail, the spokesperson said that SMEs were informed about this offer on July 15, while SAP partners where informed on July 16.
Pricing and availability details have not been disclosed, though it seems SAP has talked directly with its partners. LinkedIn Recruiter (one of the components) is offered by LinkedIn on a per seat basis, so the Starter package could be based on a similar model
Last year, SAP had invested around $22 million in funding LinkedIn and the first fruits of that move are now paying off. India is slated to be the second biggest user of LinkedIn and when we consider this fact, SAP's move looks likely to be a major boost for its partners especially in India.
