  • Commercial open-source Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software provider - SugarCRM will license its upcoming release of Sugar Community Edition 5.0 under the new Version 3 of the General Public License (GPL) - a Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) license used in the market. Sugar Community Edition 5.0 - expected to release this September - aims to introduce innovative platform features, new CRM functionality, and community development tools. John Roberts, CEO and co-founder of SugarCRM Open Source Project said that GPL v3 will be adopted in the next release of Sugar Community Edition.

    The Free Software Foundation (FSF) - which played a key role in drafting the process of GPL v3 license - claims to deliver one of the most modern FOSS license and incorporate many developer and user need.

    Eben Moglen, executive director of Software Freedom Law Centre (SFLC) said, "We believe that sharing knowledge is good. We encourage other important FOSS software projects to take the step and concur with us in making a better software."
