The cost of common data center tasks will reduce by as much as 40%, through use of the recently unveiled software - HP Insight Dynamics - VSE, informs HP. According to the company, it has previewed the industry's first software to analyze and optimize physical and virtual resources in the same way, bringing the benefits of virtualization to physical servers.
The software comes as a single offering combining several items from HP's infrastructure portfolio. The product provides advanced planning and management support for both physical and virtual servers.
With its 'logical server' technology, the software brings the key benefits of virtual machines to physical HP platforms. Thus, it helps the technology infrastructure better adapt to business demands.
Contextually, in this technology, by detaching the logical identity from the physical server, logical servers are easily provisioned and freely moved across the infrastructure, independent of whether they are physical or virtual.
According to a developer's communique, HP Insight Dynamics - VSE also will offer the industry's most advanced real-time capacity planning tool, using 'Smart Solver' technology from HP Labs. It analyzes server capacity and power usage - based on thousands of historical data points.
The software eliminates months of capacity planning and guesswork, enabling administrators to confidently predict infrastructure requirements, conveys HP. This provides a single screen view to manage all available virtual and physical resources, including hypervisors from multiple vendors.
This also ensures that data center administrators can view the big picture, or obtain a detailed view of a single resource within the same screen without switching tools. By consolidating management tools and standardizing organizational processes, the software improves administrator productivity, claims HP.
Jonathan Eunice, principal (IT advisor) of Illuminata said, "Virtualization introduces many benefits, but also the challenge of coordinating virtualized machines across the infrastructure. HP Insight Dynamics - VSE is at the forefront of a new class of management software built to manage a thoroughly virtualized world."
The software will also help in increasing the life of data center, by quickly identifying and consolidating inefficient servers onto fewer, more power-efficient ones.
HP Insight Dynamics - VSE will be available for HP BladeSystem, ProLiant and Integrity servers in the second calendar quarter of 2008. For HP ProLiant servers, the software will be delivered through the new HP Insight Dynamics - VSE package, building on the Insight Control Environment. For HP Integrity servers, this will be delivered as an update to the Virtual Server Environment Suite.
