  • Quantum Corp. provider of backup, recovery and archive solutions, has announced its first disk-based backup solutions incorporating data
    de-duplication and replication technologies.

The DXi-series, which includes DXi3500 and DXi5500 appliances helps in
eliminating redundant data and offers users in midrange and data center environments to retain 10 to 50 times more backup data, while recovering it fast and store it for months at a lower cost.

The new solution offers data de-duplication and provides performance of up to 800 GB/hour, with flexibility between NAS and virtual tape library (VTL) network interfaces.

Sunny John, country manager, Quantum India, said, "With the volumes of data increasing in multi-folds in a country like India, there is an absolute need for a product which increases the disk power to backup, data retention, disaster recovery and archival needs."

Data de-duplication technology also allows Quantum's appliances to provide WAN-based remote replication of backup data as a practical tool for disaster recovery between distributed sites such as data centers and regional offices. The DXi-Series offers easy installation process and manageability features in wider IT environments.

Subsequent to its acquisition of ADIC in August 2006, integration of key technologies from both companies has helped in the evolution of the DXi-Series solution.

According to John, the DXi-Series significantly increases the power of disk to support backup, data retention, and disaster recovery planning, and provide archival solutions.

In addition to data de-duplication, Quantum's integrated software layer includes a high performance embedded file-system, high speed data compression, asynchronous replication, interface flexibility, and built-in monitoring, alerting and diagnostic tools. This integrated software layer offers an extensible foundation for future intelligent backup, recovery and archive solutions that will improve data protection for a broad range of customer environments from remote offices to large enterprise data centers.

Quantum's DXi-Series appliances provide a wide variety of capacity options that deliver extended protection for data sets ranging from 250 GB to 11 TB in size. DXi-Series appliances are fully compatible with all leading backup applications and do not require that users change their existing backup methodology or infrastructure.

Quantum plans to ship DXi3500 and DXi5500 units this quarter. The entry level DXi-Series solution is priced at Rs 14.4 lakhs, which would be scalable going by its eight different models.
