  • Quantum Corp., the storage company specializing in backup, recovery and archive, has launched a set of development tools designed to give application providers the ability to customize the way their applications interact with Quantum's StorNext data management software. The product launched globally, is also available in India.

StorNext Application Programming Interface or SNAPI v1.0 is a software suite that requires customization as per the needs of the enterprise customer, who can take a pick from the configurations available. It enables developers to build calls into StorNext and drive specific operating behavior tuned to individual solution needs.

Sunny John, country manager, India, Quantum opines that StorNextAPI will help enhance application providers and enterprises to achieve tighter integration. It will facilitate data sharing across SAN, operating under any type of OS such as Windows, Linux, and Solaris. At present, Quantum already has more than 300 installations of its hardware products in India.

To cite an example, in HP's Digital Media Platform solution, StorNext software can be used to manage and actively archive large digital asset catalogs.

With the iMover technology, this software can move data across multiple storage tiers, both disk and tape, while maintaining transparent access to the files for multiple hosts and operating systems.

"The cost of this data management software for managing digital assets in high-performance workflow and multi-tier archive settings depends on customer specific requirements, and on the secondary storage data to be backed," adds John.

Other products in line for launch are ADIC's Tape libraries series i2K, i 500 system, Scalar 10 K, and Stor Mech.
