Rajiv Sawhney Joins Essar Telecom as CEO

As CEO, Sawhney would be responsible for Essar's overall telecom business, which includes telecom retail and infrastructure, the company said in a statement.

Prior to this appointment, he was CEO of PT Hutchison CP Telecom, an Indonesia-based company.

Essar has 33 per cent stake in the Vodafone-Essar telecom JV and also runs telecom retail chains under the brand name 'Mobile Store'.

The company has invested in Kenyan mobile operator Econet Wireless and in Obopay, a payment facilitator through mobile phones, the statement said.
