  • Religare Enterprises Limited, a diversified financial services group with a pan-India presence, has selected IBM's storage virtualisation solution (SAN Volume Controller 5.1) and DS5000 disk solution to build a dynamic IT infrastructure.

The combined solution will help Religare overcome an existing performance monitoring issue while providing a platform to virtualise their existing heterogeneous environment. The solution will enhance their storage utilization by as much as 30 percent, the company said in a release.

"Cost reduction in recessionary times is not just about containing operational cost and complexity, but achieving breakthrough productivity gains through virtualisation, optimization, energy stewardship, and flexible sourcing. We wanted to partner with the best technology advisor in the industry in order to leverage their expertise to lay the way for our future growth, while streamlining our operational costs," said Saurabh Srivastava, sr. vice president (IT), Religare Enterprises.

Religare decided to consolidate their current IT infrastructure system to build a nearline/disaster recovery setup. They chose to consolidate and virtualise their heterogeneous storage set-up, along with defining a future roadmap to build a dynamic IT infrastructure. Religare also needed a smooth integration of existing storage systems to a new SAN wide virtualized infrastructure with minimum downtime and flexibility.

According to Sandeep K Dutta, VP-storage, systems and technology group, IBM India/South Asia, building a more dynamic infrastructure via virtualisation and consolidation is not just about operational efficiency, but a financial and competitive necessity. "Religare recognized and realized that they needed to build a robust infrastructure to address their current and future expansion plans attaining higher TCO & ROI. Religare's choice of IBM as its preferred IT infrastructure partner re-affirms our undisputed leadership in the storage in India," he added.

IBM's storage virtualisation solution will help virtualise the disk pool from multiple storage subsystems into a reservoir of capacity that can be managed more efficiently, improving storage utilisation and administration and enhancing performance to meet future growth, the company said.

The solution will also ensure seamless data migration between subsystems while automating the storage usage by 'on demand' provisioning and increasing the business flexibility by providing higher availability and scalability with improved performance. Moreover, the proposed solution will further compliment the business continuity plan more efficiently and effectively, according to the company.
