India's largest steel maker Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) on Thursday installed the Freight Operations Information System (FOIS) to improve its logistics management.
FOIS has been developed by the Center for Railway Information System (CRIS) and would help the steel maker to monitor its incoming and outgoing rail freight traffic, a company statement said.
The company also said with the installation of this system it became the first company in the country to do so.
This system was made operational today and will be available for use for all SAIL plants and units simultaneously for providing on-line information about incoming raw material wagon/trains starting from the loading point to the destination points, the release said.
This system will also monitor the movement of finished products from steel plants to stockyards or customers, their pipeline positions, freight payment details, wagon status and detention.
The steel maker's rail traffic is expected to grow to nearly 110 million tons per year by 2011 from the current level of 62 tonnes per day, the release said.
