  • SMC Networks, a networking solutions provider for the SMBs and SMEs has made available SMC8724ML3 and SMC8748ML3 TigerStack 1000 stackable 24 and 48-port Layer 3 Managed Gigabit Ethernet Switches in India. The company claims that these 10G stackable switches can be used as an effective replacement for the more expensive chassis solutions.

According to the company, the new SMC8748ML3 switch has 48 fixed 10/100/1000 ports compared to the SMC8724ML3, which has 24. In each of the switches, four of the ports can be upgraded with optional mini GBIC expansion slots for fibre connections. An optional one-port 10Gigabit XENPAK Module can be added to either of the switches for 10G uplink.

Speaking at the launch, Sanjay Koul, Country Manager, SMC Networks, India and SAARC said, "As we know, for any 1000+ Network the backbone of the network should comply to high availability for port, high speed switching and routing, high backplane and most important redundancy. Till now, this could be achieved using chassis switch solution only but we now have a more effective option in SMC's 10G stackable switches."

These new TigerStack 10/100/1000 switches also claim to offer Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (802.1s) and stack-wide link aggregation (LACP) for more powerful management applications.

The company says that the SMC8748ML3 and SMC8724ML3 can also be mixed or matched for stacking up to eight units high, and have the flexibility to allow for upgrades for future.

The SMC8724ML3 and SMC8748ML3 TigerStack 1000 stackable 24 and 48-port Layer 3 Managed Gigabit Ethernet Switches are available at a price range of $3,500 and $5,200 through all the authorized channel partners of SMC Networks in the country.
