  • SMC Networks, a leading technology provider of LAN, broadband and wireless products has announced the launch of SMC Enhanced Data Rate Wireless Bluetooth USB Adapter (SMCBT-EDR) in India.

    The wireless technology device offers higher bandwidth (3Mb) as compared to Bluetooth v1.2 or v1.1. The new product supports Class 1 Bluetooth and has an operating range of up to 300 feet and can simultaneously support 3 connection tasks.

    Its Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) is made to increase the reliability of data transfer, while Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) improves wider use of Bluetooth, allowing transfer and sharing of audio, video, digital photograph applications.

    Jimmy Goh, VP, Sales and Marketing, SMC said, "Bluetooth connectivity is a ubiquitous affair today. The availability of Bluetooth 2.0 standard with Enhanced Data Rate Protocol opens up new standards and facilitates the use of various applications that demand heavy bandwidth seamlessly."

    Wireless Bluetooth USB Adapter of the product can connect PCs to Bluetooth devices. Users can set-up Personal Area Network (PAN) and connect up to seven Bluetooth - equipped devices and browse the web using a mobile phone. Security of data exchanged is ensured by encryption and authentication.

    Aimed at enterprise, SMB and SOHO users, the product also features EZ Installation Wizard for automatic installation.

    SMCBT-EDR retails at $29.99 and will be made available with all major distributors.
