SME Sector - Spam Free!
By Anuradha Ramamirtham
Mumbai, Jun 12, 2007

With a clear agenda of serving the SME sector, Aladdin Knowledge Systems, a provider of software DRM, authentication, and content security solutions has partnered with Secure Synergy, in India.

Speaking to CXOtoday.com, Shailendra Sahasrabudhe, country manager of Aladdin Knowledge Systems said, "The definition of SME segment differs from person to person. When we say SME segment, we mean to address people who don't have big budgets for IT infrastructure, and who don't have manpower to manage IT infrastructure, for who IT isn't core business but is essential business."

"We are offering this service to the masses. This is for people who don't have the budget and manpower to manage the different kinds of appliances at their site to avoid threats like spam," said Sahasrabudhe.

Together, the two companies would offer secure surfing and mailing services to the large enterprises and the SME sector, across the country. The offering gives their clients a centralized, value added security service that filters web traffic before it reaches to the web surfer. "We provide all necessary hardware, latest software; latest tools, the backend infrastructure, and they use their marketing sales to take the service to the customers," added Sahasrabudhe.

The service mainly helps subscribers manage their site from spam mails, spyware, and phishing attacks.

According to Ajit Pathak, country manager (sales operations) of SecureSynergy, "The spam traffic, mainly network operational problems has increased to 50% in 2007 from 30-40% of spam traffic security problems in late 1990s."

Secure Synergy is offering Assure, a secure mailing solution and Stream, a secure surfing solution built around Aladdin's eSafe platform. These can help customers reduce their bandwidth costs as they get only genuine traffic, get on demand, scalable web security services, reduce costs in managing costly devices, and get a clean ISP line without the need to configure, install or update for any kind of security threats.

When asked about why Aladdin chose Secure Synergy, Sahasrabudhe said, "Secure Synergy is well known in the Indian market and has a proven track record. They are already offering singular services in the market. Also, they have a strong existing partner network with over 100 partners in India to approach the customers." He also adds that there are talks going on with other companies to provide the singular services.

On the investment made by Aladdin towards this project, Sahasrabudhe said, "Investment will keep increasing as the numbers of customers grow. Whatever infrastructure we have put is for a limited set of customers. We will have to scale up our investment once the demand increases."

Future ventures include providing mobile data protection, event co-relation, and log management services.

Assure is available immediately. Operationally, Stream is not available, but the company is taking first level feedback from customers and will launch it soon.

The value of the project couldn't be shared citing reasons of confidentiality.
