SNIA India to Deliver Data Storage Education
By Muntazir Abbas
Delhi, Jun 26, 2008

Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) India, which operates as a non-profit organization has taken an initiative to offer training programs for data storage professionals. The association has a membership of nearly 100 associates, including IT vendors, end-users, partners and individuals.

"With an overwhelming response in the recent years, we have decided to educate the industry through skilled-learning initiatives on data storage and its technical aspects through Technical Working Group (TWG)", says Sharad Shrivastava, Chairman, SNIA India.

This initiative is said to be a step to narrow a gap between supply and demand of storage professionals. "The course fee is Rs. 25,000 as compared to $ 3,500 in US domain, and this program is first of its kind in Asia Pacific", informs Avijit Basu, Director (Marketing,) SNIA India.

The association maintains partnerships with three franchise institutes located in Mumbai, Delhi and Banglore, and is expected to extend training programs through nearly 10 regional associates by the end of 2008. It is poised to unveil innovative programs that may prove significant in data storage industry.

Bala Guna, director, Training Initiatives, SNIA India while commenting on the subject says, "We are confident to bridge a gap between demand and supply of certified data storage professionals in the industry and these programs will soon be initiated through multiple franchises.

"The major challenge before SNIA India is to establish a team of expert training professionals", adds Bala Guna. The association has already trained a group of 20 trainers under "train the trainer" program this year. Besides hands-on experience, the association is set to provide innovative education through its franchise-network across the country.

SNIA has cooled down after an initial flourish two years ago. SNIA needs to induct more end user organisations and events geared towards educating them. This in turn will spur demand for storage products.
