Seagate Adds Fastest HDD to its Portfolio
By CXOtoday Staff
Mumbai, Nov 07, 2008 1321 hrs IST

Its unified storage architecture with the Savvio hard drives will improve manageability, integration, security, benefit IT departments, and ensure business continuity. The release will have server sweet-spots of 146GB and 73GB with a SAS. It will run at 6Gb/s speeds to give higher signal strength over distances with low power consumption. "Server and storage array requirements in the enterprise today will need to focus on lowering power and cooling cost while meeting the growing application and compliance regulations," said Sherman Black, senior vice president, Marketing and Strategy, Core Products Group, Seagate Technology LLC. Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager for Dell's Storage Business said that these drives will help Dell PowerEdge server and PowerVault storage customers with higher density at a reduced power envelope. Both the Seagate Savvio 15K.2 and Savvio 10K.3 drives will begin shipping in December with models featuring SED expected to be available during the first quarter of 2009.
