Smart PC For Corporates Occupies Less Space
By Gaurav Kumar
Mumbai, Apr 07, 2008 1906 hrs IST

First it was blade server, then virtualization, and now there's a new PC that have succeeded in compressing computing power into a smaller device. PC manufacturer Zenith has launched a 'Smartstyle' PC, which is a computer without any cabinet. So how does it function is the obvious question? Do not make wild guesses. The CPU, in fact, is very much there; it's just embedded behind the slim LCD screen, so that it is almost invisible. This unique concept compresses the PC's functionality into a device, which is just about the size of an LCD screen, making CPU racks and cabinets meant for placing external CPUs redundant. This can create potential for major space saving, and convenience for users within enterprises, besides offering other related benefits. No wonder, Zenith launched the 'Smartstyle' PC with much fanfare at a beach resort in Goa. Zenith is positioning the product as something between the Laptop and the Desktop, thus creating its own unique category. The company is trying to position its 'SmartstylePC'in the lifestyle segment with a puchline 'cool meets smart'. "It has desktop performance with power consumption equivalent to a laptop," says Raj Saraf, chairman and managing director of Zenith Computers. The product The all-in-one desktop sports a wide TFT monitor, which contains the entire CPU in the same casing. It features a 17" WXGA, with built-in speakers and Intel Dual processor T2130, with 1 GB memory and hard disk capacity of 80 GB. The product is aggressively priced at Rs. 20,000. The Smartstyle has been developed at Zenith's new Product Development Centre (NPDC) in Goa. The warranty period for the product is between 1-5 years. Market The product is mainly targeted towards increasing demands of growing sectors. "We are mainly targeting corporate sector, like banking, BPO and retail sectors," said Saraf. The company believes that the new stylish PC will appeal to both the youth and the enterprise segments. Always on Zenith Computers also launched a new brand campaign 'Always on' for after sales support and external call centre in India, which focuses on zero pending calls every day. The aim is to have a bond between customer and the brand with the facility of 24X7 service. "The biggest challenge today is 'Service'. We have sales service that few can match up," said Saraf.
