Survey results from IDC's Asia Pacific Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) studies revealed that one of the challenges faced by many Asia Pacific organizations implementing SOA projects is the inability to align and garner support from business users to utilize these services.
According to IDC - with the emergence of Web 2.0, AJAX, and Mashups - organizations can improve the success rate of their service-oriented IT projects. Leveraging these technologies would improve the user interface, communication, and alignment with corporate goals and business directives.
Patrick Chan, research director of IDC's Asia Pacific Emerging Technologies IT Services says, "Leveraging communication platforms based on these emerging technologies (Web 2.0, wikis, blogs, etc.) in initial stages of the planning and pilot phase could help facilitate internal organizational communication and enhance the rate of SOA adoption."
Furthermore, IDC mentions in its report that, a service-oriented approach through increased services flexibility for applications, network, and corporate data enables agility in business process management for composite services and intelligence required by different business users. Business users can now communicate among team members and enable IT teams to react to changing business requirements with the aid of these technologies.
According to the study, of utmost importance is that management would be able to monitor services and business Key Performance Indicators (KPI) with visual presentations while aligning services and processes to improve operational efficiencies, revenue performance, and customer service.
IDC is of the opinion that the rise of business intelligence, business process management, and emerging technologies like Web 2.0, AJAX, etc., are aligning and contributing toward service orientation for the good of the corporation.
