  • In an exclusive with CXOtoday, Andrew Tay, regional director, Asia, Symbol Technologies Asia Pacific, speaks about the recently launched MC3000, a small yet rugged mobile computer that's designed for store and stockroom applications requiring high-quality data capture and excellent performance.

Speaking about the features, Tay said, "The MC3000 is targeted at the retail, transportation and logistics, automatic-meter reading (AMR) and warehouse mobility industries. This handheld is a small, lightweight, highly ergonomic mobile computer, designed for businesses seeking to increase productivity and flexibility from in-store and backroom data capture applications."

Elaborating more on the solution he stated, "MC3000 handheld features are designed to support enterprise mobility strategies and includes advanced scanning and imaging technologies to quickly, accurately and efficiently capture mission-critical information in both batch and WLAN configurations."

"The adjustable rotating scan turret with left, right and front positions allows the user to adjust the scanning positions for increased comfort and productivity. The integrated WiFi (802.11b and 802.11g) connectivity effectively moves the captured information and support for Symbol's Mobility Services Platform (MSP) agent, enabling corporations to monitor and manage the handhelds in real-time via a centralized Symbol MSP console," added Tay.

Speaking further he said, "While a range of Symbol handheld computers are already available, the MC3000 is top-of-the-line for the retail and transportation and logistics industry in India."

According to him, "As customers seek to upgrade aging systems in order to support competitive business initiatives, the MC3000 provides them with a migration path to move from a legacy DOS-based application environment to the more familiar user-interface of Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2 computing platform."

In terms of availability, he mentioned that the MC3000 has been available in India since late first quarter 2005 through their partners. The list price is US $1200-$1600.
