  • Arch rivals in the chip segment AMD and Intel have come together.

Themis Computer has announced four new, high performance 2RU and 3RU Dual-Core AMD Opteron and Dual-Core Intel Xeon-based servers for mission-critical applications.

A news release said here that 2RU and 3RU Rugged Enterprise Servers (RES) combine AMD and Intel 64-bit processors, with design features of the server family. Designed to keep operating in environments where other systems fail, the servers blend latest processor technologies with Themis' proprietary thermal and mechanical design to deliver performance and reliability. To ensure reliable operation in harsh environments, the servers are designed to withstand shock loads to 25G. They also support Linux, Sun Solaris, and Windows Operating Systems.

"We design and build rugged computing solutions that provide high quality, superior scalability and reliability, in hostile operating environments," said William Kehret, president of Themis Computer. "These new server variants allow our customers to provide state of the art solutions for their mission critical applications."

RES-22DCO and RES-32DCO servers may be configured with one or two dual-core Opteron Series 2000 processors, AMD's Direct Connect Architecture, Hyper Transport technology, Simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing, and AMD PowerNow technology . Themis' RES-22DCO and RES-32DCO servers offer system compute and I/O performance, dependability, and value. The MCP55-Pro is the central hub for all data that passes through the core system elements and delivers high bandwidth across a 1000MHz Hyper Transport bus. The NEC 720400 is a PCI-Express to PCI-X bridge. System expansion versatility provides ample headroom for integration with current and future server platforms.

The servers are easily expanded through addition of commercially available, off the shelf networking cards, graphics, I/O, peripherals and other value-added options to meet current and future system requirements.

Featuring three I/O expansion slots, extensive high speed I/O, and multiple storage options, the RES-22DCO offers users versatile configuration and system expansion options.
One or two Dual-Core AMD Opteron Socket F processors - up to 2.4GHz with 2MB L2 Cache.
Up to 64GB ECC registered DDR2 400 SDRAM memory or
Up to 32GB ECC registered DDR2 667 SDRAM memory.
nVidia MCP55 Pro and NEC 720400 chipset.
1000MHz Hyper Transport bus, including the IO55 dedicated I/O
processor and the NEC 720400 PCI-Express to PCI-X bridge.
Up to three (3) removable Ultra320 SCSI or SATA-2 drives.
    CD-RW/DVD-RW drive storage options.
RES-32DCO, a 3RU dual-processor server can be configured with one or two AMD Dual-Core Opteron Series 2000 processors. Featuring up to six I/O controller expansion slots, extensive high speed I/O, and multiple storage options, the RES-32DCO offers users versatile configuration and system expansion options.
