Western Railway Starts SMS Updates

Western Railway (WR) has joined hands with netCore to provide WR updates through netCore's MyToday Dailies SMS service

Through this opt-in SMS service, passengers can receive general updates on local and outstation trains within Western Railway's jurisdiction. The service is available to subscribers from 15 August '08.

To subscribe to the service, one needs to SMS 'START WRUPDATES ' to 09845298452, e.g. START WRUPDATES KHAR. Once activated, the person will receive general updates such as mega blocks, train affected services, new services, ticketing facilities, etc. from WR free of charge.

A regular SMS charge as per user's regular operator plan, for sending START / STOP will have to be borne by the subscriber.

"Western Railway, a pioneer in various spheres, has taken another step in the field of Information Technology. After successfully launching initiatives such as Computerized Passenger Reservation, Internet Booking, Interactive Voice Response system and smart card, we will now provide free updates through SMS," said A. K. Jhingron, GM of Western Railway.
