'Intel Inside' is a punch line that we used to hear repeatedly. Last year, Intel changed its punch line to 'Leap Ahead'. In his recent visit to India, Patrick Gelsinger, Senior VP & GM, Digital Enterprise Group, Intel discussed how the company is planning to leapfrog ahead and what are its future initiatives.
"Intel has come up with various initiatives for developing countries lately. The various platform announcements, which we have lately come up with, are geared towards enterprises in India. The announcement of Intel's vPro technology is geared towards meeting the needs of CXOs across the gamut from large to small and medium sized enterprises," said Gelsinger.
Moore's Law lives on at 40. So what does Intel have in store for the future? "We are coming up with the Montecito processor, a huge step in the Itanium server family. Our cooperation with BMC in the storage arena is also ongoing."
Commenting on the Digital Enterprise Group, Gelsinger stated, "This is an internal reorganization within the company to build communication and infrastructure platforms for enterprises. While talking about enterprises, we mean everything ranging from governments to small and medium sized companies."
"The Itanium Solutions Alliance, a collaboration of Intel with other server vendors including Fujitsu, Fujitsu Siemens, Hitachi, and NEC would assist in the further growth of the Itanium server family," noted Gelsinger.
About Dell choosing AMD, Gelsinger said, "It is obviously a major win for AMD, but Intel will come up with further initiatives for enterprises in the near future."
"We're happy with our relationship with Indian IT customers including HCL, Wipro, Infosys, Reliance, Tata Communications etc. We have a lot of competitive challenges in the Indian IT market. Sun has good business here and we're fighting to win that business. The announcements which we made this week were basically about India's ability to embrace technology," stated Gelsinger.
"Research initiatives currently underway in Intel includes further research in processor technology so that Gordon Moore's vision lives on and further processing power can be packed on a single chip," said Gelsinger.
"Issues in India include infrastructure, policy, making affordable PCs for the Indian market. We want to work with governments in terms of education programs, assist in Wi-Fi/ WiMax initiatives across various states and build great products for the Indian marketplace," concluded Gelsinger.

by Deepak Gupta on Jul 29, 2006 02:24 PMI am quiet interested with such type of work. Like to work on the same in future. I am aiming to design a system, which allow for global identification of a person. Means from any place in the world , we can locate any other person, in a manner in which the target person is not having any devices. As DNA sample & such other thing of every man is different in his world, so we will design a highly energetic light wave based upon that dna pattern , which get reflected when it touches the person with same dna sample Through some calculation we can locate the person This requires lot of study & money for research. But i am sure that it can be achieved. Please notify me for any further query.
