Interview |
| Encube Ethical To Deploy SAP ERP |
| Ankush Sohoni |
| The SAP Summit ’05 played host to a number
of CXOs from all across the country. The CXOs ranged from those
working with giant enterprises as well as the smaller ones.
Chirag Gandhi, head – IT, Encube Ethical, spoke to CXOtoday.com
regarding the implementation of SAP ERP. |
| CXOtoday.com: Could give us a brief overview
of your company and your line of business? |
Chirag Gandhi
- We are basically a pharmaceutical company, which
specializes in dermatology products. We primarily undertake
contracts from company, and we see a lot of business coming
out from offshore companies too. We also make these products
and export them too. |
| CXOtoday.com: Why the need for implementing
an ERP? |
| Chirag Gandhi
- We initially had our legacy systems in place, which
mainly comprised of an in-house Foxpro based solution, but the
legacy systems could only do what they could do, and not more
than that. Our customers were using an ERP, and in order to
maintain a certain order and consistency with regards to our
contracts, and to put a certain kind of workflow in place, we
decided that we needed an ERP. The decision was well supported
by our management. |
| CXOtoday.com: So why did you decide to implement
SAP’s ERP, when you had other vendors to choose from? |
| Chirag Gandhi
- Well, SAP is quite well known as the number one ERP
vendor in the game. We wanted to be associated with them, however,
that is not the prime reason. Most of our customers/clients
use SAP and it is highly recommended by every IT manager. Although,
we did evaluate other vendors, we found SAP to be the most beneficial
to us. |
| CXOtoday.com : Did you put to task, a team? |
| Chirag Gandhi
- Yes. We had a team of our own engineers, as well as
a team from CVS-IT, our integrators, and totally, we had an
18-member strong team. We started our implementation on the
May 1 2005, and plan to complete the implementation in another
4 months. |
| CXOtoday.com : What kind of infrastructure does
SAP sit on? |
| Chirag Gandhi
- Well, we have always used HP’s servers, and we
have continued to use these, however, we are using an upgraded
set. We have deployed HP’s ML350 servers, and HP’s
ML370 servers in our production plant. With regards to our database
the company uses Microsoft SQL Server 2000. |
