Dr David W Yen, brings over 24 years of technology
know-how, engineering vision and strong
business management expertise to Sun Microsystems,
Inc. As Executive Vice President of the
company's Scalable Systems Group,
Dr David W Yen is responsible for driving Sun's Throughput
Computing and Throughput Networking initiatives.
Under SSG,
Dr David W Yen
has unified Sun's microprocessors,
enterprise systems and SPARC-based volume
systems initiatives, and continues driving
product development, strategy, marketing
and overall business management.
Prior to his current appointment,
Dr David W Yen
was instrumental in developing a clear
and focused vision for Sun's Enterprise
Servers, enabling Sun to grow into a multi-billion
dollar server system vendor.
Dr David W Yen
has
held several positions including Executive
Vice President of Sun's Processor &
Network Products Group, Vice President
and General Manager of Sun's Enterprise
Systems, Integrated Products, Enterprise
Server Products and Enterprise Server
Engineering.
Dr David W Yen
was co-founder and director of hardware
development of Cydrome, Inc., a mini-supercomputer
start-up, for four and a half years before
joining Sun in October of 1988. Prior
to Cydrome,
Dr David W Yen
was employed by IBM Research
for manufacturing automation and TRW,
Inc. for advanced processor development.
Dr David W Yen
earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical
Engineering from National Taiwan University
in 1973, received an M.S. and Ph.D. degree
in Electrical and Computer Engineering
from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
in 1980, and completed a General Management
Program at Stanford Business School in
1993.
