Cognizant Technology Solutions, provider of IT services, has announced it has leveraged one of its pre-built business process frameworks, Yardelligent, to quickly build a yard management solution for CAT Group, a leading European logistics company.

Speaking exclusively to CXOtoday, Venkateswaran Mahesh, vice-president, manufacturing and logistics practice, Cognizant Technology Solutions, said, “With increasing globalization, automotive supply chains are getting even more complex and difficult to manage. Finished vehicle yards are increasingly playing a crucial role in the downstream auto distribution supply chain. Efficient yard operations have a direct impact on customer order fulfillment and their bottom line.”

“Cognizant’s comprehensive business process framework is aimed to accelerate the development of customized solutions for management of yards, ports and other warehouses. Our solution helps to handle day-to-day operations of yards, ports and warehouses,” added Mahesh.

Elaborating on the Yardelligent, Mahesh continued, “This business process framework helps automate the operations of yards and ports and provide real time information on the status of vehicles and other assets. This in turn helps to reduce the overall yard operations cost, increases yard productivity and provides seamless integration.”

It consists of various functional base modules that cater to different needs of yards and ports. These modules are independent and customizable to specific business requirements. It can be interfaced with all internal systems of the yard and external systems of other entities in the supply chain like vehicle manufacturers, dealers, distributors and vehicle carriers.

The custom solution integrates with CAT Group’s central vehicle management system and provides accurate vehicle tracking and better resource planning capabilities.

“Cognizant was able to quickly understand our processes and in this case developed a solution utilizing their business process framework that best suited our needs,” stated Jan Huizeling, CIO of CAT Group. The company was apparently able to build the solution in a relatively short time frame while at the same time providing CAT Group the flexibility to add functionality.

According to Mahesh, Yardelligent’s application framework is built on J2EE platform and enables easy customization to meet the specific needs of each client. The company has even leveraged this framework to develop a port management solution for Ford in Japan.

“Currently, we have not leveraged this business process framework for any of our clients in India. However, we are confident it can meet the needs of any logistics company, globally,” concluded Mahesh.
