Two New ServerIronGT 10 Gigabit Switches Enable Application Acceleration, Enhanced Security and Integrated SSL Acceleration for Secure Web and VoIP Services

Foundry Networks Inc, a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, has announced two new ultra-high-performance ServerIron Layer 4-7 switches with 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE).

The migration of traditional applications to the Web and the growing deployment of triple-play services, such as voice, video, and are causing an overload of traffic volume in data centers.

Today, organizations are increasingly relying on 10-GbE technologies to scale and future-proof the data center network to accommodate the dramatic increase in traffic.

“Foundry’s ServerIronGT 10 Gigabit switches provide organizations the option for port expandability, performance upgradeability, and on-demand features implementation, including integrated SSL acceleration,” said Bobby Johnson, CEO of Foundry Networks.

The switches deliver over 200,000 Layer 4 connections per second and advanced denial of service (DoS) protection to critical applications at multi-Gigabit wire-speed rates.

The ServerIronGT C Series 10-GbE switch features an innovative two rack units (2U) compact modular three-slot design. The device’s one available slot may be used to add port density, insert a second active management module for doubling performance, or integrate SSL acceleration with an optional service module.

The new ServerIronGT E Series is a more expandable five-Rack Unit model with four slots.

Both units can handle 200,000 Layer 4 connections per second and 70,000 Layer 7 connections per second, and support denial-of-service protection at gigabit speeds.

Both switch models provide server load balancing, content switching, SSL acceleration, HTTP connection offload, application security and high-availability configurations with hitless failover, on top of standard Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching and routing.

Foundry also hopes to add HTTP compression in the new models as well as other existing ServerIron models later in the first quarter of this year.

The ServerIron GT C Series and E Series switches are due next month and are priced at $39,995. New SSL acceleration modules with one or two processors are $9,995 or $17,995.
