Godrej Agrovet integrates SAP ERP with farm management system
Godrej Agrovet (GAVL) and SAP AG have announced the successful completion of the former’s implementation of SAP software. According to Godrej Agrovet, this implementation has helped the company achieve operational efficiency through centralization of data across a regional network of more than 10,000 rural distributors, 18,000 farmers and 1,900 employees.
With business software from SAP, the agribusiness leader is able to provide its entire ecosystem with real-time information through SMS and e-mail alerts, leading to greater productivity. As part of the implementation, the enterprise resource planning (ERP) application SAP ERP has been integrated with a farm management system through which farmers in the oil-palm plantation business are provided a radio-frequency identification (RFID) card that contains all key details about the soil, produce, history of the land ownership and personal details, yields, fertilizers used as well as the details of fruits supplied to GAVL. According to GAVL, the transition to a centralized set-up has benefited the entire farmer ecosystem including suppliers and customers.
GAVL is a diversified agribusiness company, with interests in animal feed, oil palm plantations, agrochemicals and poultry in the country. With network expansion and strong growth momentum, the company saw a need to strengthen information visibility and analysis pertaining to key operations across businesses. Implementation of SAP along with Hewlett-Packard (HP is a SAP gold partner), has enabled GAVL to create a central repository of information. This has facilitated higher levels of farmer service through seamless payment mechanisms; yield data analysis and feed cost optimization, and delivers a radical improvement to their profitability using SAP software.
“Our mission is to improve the productivity of Indian farmers by innovating products and services that sustainably increase crop and livestock yields. Our alliance with SAP has provided GAVL a single view of the various critical business processes across the organization, and helps us achieve operational excellence, leading to greater customer satisfaction and loyalty,” explained S Varadaraj, Executive Vice-President (Finance & Systems), Godrej Agrovet Limited.
