In its nearly three decades of existence, Tally has made a number of significant strides to transform the technology landscape in the market in which it operates. India, of course is Tally’s most sought-after market, as it has powered hundreds of small and mid-sized businesses in the country. But the Bharat-Goenka led ERP major has also set its foot globally – taking its simple yet powerful offerings across geographies.

While Tally has several feathers on its hat, one of the latest companies for which it recently helped streamlining operations is a Norwegian chemicals major dealing mainly with paints and coatings, the Jotun Group. With its presence in more than 90 countries and with 9500 employees, the company anticipated several business challenges when it made inroads  into the African market, said K. R Rao, Regional IT Manager (MEIA), Jotun UAE Ltd., Dubai.

Jotun was named after the Jotuns, a kind of giant featured in Norse mythology. The company has been successful in developing several famous landmarks around the world, including Eiffel Tower in Paris, Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Rao said, the company realized the need to have a quality ERP in place before starting a business venture. “High speed and quality internet lines and trained manpower are needed to run global ERP systems which is a challenge for us,”

As the the paint giant set out to look for a flexible  ERP partner that  can  fulfill  its  local  needs  in  the African countries, it got introduced to Tally, which was already offering business solution in the African markets. “Tally.ERP 9 easily fitted and fulfilled all of Jotun’s needs. It was an extremely easy to operate software,” said Rao.

With the prompt help of Tally’s regional team at Dubai, a training session on Tally was conducted by a member of the team and the roll out process was initiated. Within no time, Jotun’s Kenya office was fully functional with all its finance, logistics and supply chain operations managed on Tally.ERP 9. The Dubai team even helped them implement the taxation module  and  customize MIS reports, to meet their local requirements, he said.

Rizvi Syed Masroor, Director and Partner at Infobit Computer Solutions, a Tally Partner in Dubai-UAE recalled the experience, “We worked very closely with Jotun Paints to understand their needs and challenges. ImplementingTally meant customizing the  product to work in sync with their existing software. But with the help of the Tally Dubai Team and Tally Kenya Team we managed to roll out the product in record time. The statutory requirements of Africa were also kept in mind and built in the product.”

With Tally ERP 9, Jotun’s plan of having quick rollout of ERP was accomplished. “Tally.ERP9 was both easy to learn and flexible in adapting to the local and legal needs of the region. It was also an economically viable solution. Also some of the existing employees in Jotun’s finance team were already aware of the product’s functionalities. This proved to be an additional asset to the company,” pitched in Rao.

From controls point of view, with the server at Dubai, they could easily run both the Kenya and infuture Morocco sites remotely. The most satisfying experience for them has been the fact that the roll-out was extremely seamless and became operational as per plan, he added. “We see the new solution as a great fit in terms of flexibility and adaptibility especially in areas where we have challenging internet lines,” Rao summed up.
