IDRBT-Cisco Lab To Train RBI and PSU Banks

The Institute of Development & Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) — an autonomous center for R&D in banking technologies — today announced that it has set up a fully functional technology demonstration lab powered by Cisco Systems at its campus in Hyderabad.

Cisco Systems has set up this lab to train all IDRBT, RBI and other public sector banking professionals on end-to-end security and wireless solutions.

IDRBT has already conducted two sessions to train more than 60 RBI personnel on network security utilizing the lab. It would also be used to train personnel from other banks to familiarize them on deployment of wireless solutions besides implementation of security.

The training would focus on network security, since this is one of the most critical concerns, especially in a scenario when technology is being increasingly used in the Indian Banking and Financial Sector. Cisco has deployed an end-to-end security solution, which includes Firewalls, Intrusion Detection System (IDS), Host IDS, VPN concentrator, and intelligent security features.

Dr. VP Gulati, director, IDBRT, on this occasion, said, “With the increased absorption of cutting edge solutions to make banking services available any-time, any-where to the customers, there comes the need for appropriately up-skilling banking professionals on these technologies - especially on ensuring that security is not compromised while making banking more convenient. IDRBT has invested in this Lab to deliver precisely such training.”

“We opted for Cisco because they could deliver the entire range of networking solutions to us, which made installation, commissioning and management of the network easy. Moreover, the products and solutions offered by Cisco such as wireless and security are rated the best in their class providing high functionality and performance as required in a banking network,” Gulati reasoned.

Speaking about the deployment, B Ashok, vice president, Cisco Systems India & SAARC, said, “The IDRBT technology lab is a unique concept. This is the first instance of an organization having shown the foresight of investing into such a lab to train and equip India’s bankers on cutting edge technologies, which are driving the growth of the Indian banking sector. The solution has been deployed in record time - and IDRBT has already conducted its first trainings in the lab.”
